Lesley Chan
Lesley Chan is back this summer and her workshop will assist you in creating your own live-performance using an overhead projector, hand-made images and every-day objects.
As visual culture leans more and more towards the digital realm, many non-digital technologies are abandoned or forgotten. Traditionally the overhead projector has been an instructional visual tool for schools and businesses. Alternatively artists have appropriated it since the 1960’s to make experimental light shows, live-performances and installations. This workshop encourages you to explore and challenge the artistic practice of the overhead.
Overhead art is full of possibilities. There has been a general resurgence in overhead art so it will be a wonderful opportunity for the participants to join in the fun. As part of the introduction, Lesley will be showing some sample stills of overhead art to show the participants different styles and techniques they can try. Take a break from our increasingly digitized moving-image culture and see what lies beyond standardized technology.
Participants will have the chance to perform their masterpiece accompanied by live music on Sunday, August 2nd.
We will provide materials, but you may bring any objects from home for experimentation
