Grieving for my Ancestors, 2021, Digital photograph, 40″ x 60″
Thursday July 11, 4:45 – 6:00pm > Alex Jacobs-Blum, Talk, Durham Art Gallery
Woven from Gayogo̱hó:nǫʼ (Cayuga) and German roots, my identity sparks introspection into questions of belonging and understanding my intrinsic connection with the land. My practice becomes a sacred gateway, offering space to reclaim my Indigeneity with an emphasis on the land that has sustained my Hodinöhsö:ni’ lineage across generations. It is a journey that leads me to (re)discover and honour the ancestral knowledge preserved within the recesses of my memory.
