Heartbreak in Sudbury — The Fab Film Fest presents a program of six experimental short films drawn from diverse archives, featuring works by Roland Stutz & Claude Léveillé, Norman McLaren & Evelyn Lambart, Clark Nicolai, Leslie Peters, Nathan Adler, and Christina Battle. The program delves into the hypnotism of the horizon and the road, into the madness embodied by the automobile, and the world it has generated. Through a formal and sensory approach, it examines the impact of the vehicle on our experience of life and of the territory.

Peine d’amour à Sudbury — Le Fab Film Fest présente un programme de six courts métrages expérimentaux issus d’archives variées, réunissant des œuvres de Roland Stutz & Claude Léveillé, Norman McLaren & Evelyn Lambart, Clark Nicolai, Leslie Peters, Nathan Adler et Christina Battle. Ce programme plonge dans l’hypnotisme de l’horizon et de la route, dans la folie qu’incarne la voiture, et dans le monde qu’elle a engendré. À travers une approche formelle et sensorielle, il interroge l’impact du véhicule sur notre expérience de la vie et notre relation au territoire.

Ce court métrage d’animation de Roland Stulz met en images une chanson de Claude Léveillée. On y suit un chauffeur de taxi en accéléré, grâce à la technique de pixilation, pendant une journée sur la route. | Claude Léveillée expresses the frustrations of a taxi driver steering his vehicle through the obstacle course of downtown traffic. Accelerated camera action heightens the fury and the frenzy.

Court métrage d’animation qui démontre la beauté du cinéma dans sa plus simple expression. Norman McLaren et Evelyn Lambart font pour ainsi dire la synthèse de la musique et du langage cinématographique. Lines Horizontal est accompagné par le musicien folk américain Pete Seeger, aux instruments à vent et à cordes.

5-Miikana (The Road) 2015, Nathan Adler, 00h 04m 44s. Une vidéo sur écran partagé de la route transcanadienne et de l’unique route d’accès à notre réserve, la Première nation du Lac des Mille Lacs / Nezaatiikang, située au nord- ouest de Thunder Bay. Avant l’achèvement de la route d’accès à la fin des années 2000, la réserve n’était accessible que par voie d’eau. Les routes fonctionnent comme une métaphore de la colonisation en révélant la disparité entre le Canada et les Nations Autochtones. | A split-screen video of the Trans-Canada Highway and the single Access Road on our Reserve, the Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation / Nezaatiikang, located north-west of Thunder Bay. Before the completion of the Access road in the late 2000’s, the Reserve was only accessible by water. The roads work as metaphor of Colonization by revealing disparity between Canada and Indigenous Nations.)
